Am having trouble with engine rev's, throttle sticking so I gave Paul Knott a ring. Throttle cable I was told and I need the bus on the road next week so I ordered a new cable from him. Then I started, removed fan (good fun, no right size tools). then shroud (those top bolts are easy to get at !!!!), then to get shroud out had to swing steering linkage out of way (take off passenger side wheel), that is where I am up to. Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there any tips or shortcuts. Cheers

I did this a while ago and remember it being a pain of a job. I'm flat out now - will try and remember a bit more tomorrow and post that. I do remember that Paul gave very good instructions when I rang him in a panic.

Weesa #400 I did mine in about 2 hours. Followed instructions from Robin Wade. Drained fluid from radiator, took the grill out and then removed 4 bolts that hold the A/C in, swung that to one side as there is enough hose to do this, then removed the radiator. Three clamps on the hoses to the radiator and 4 bolts that hold it in from memory and the end of the cable is straight in front of you. Do everything in reverse and the job is done. Quick simple and not frustrating from memory. I did mine 6 years ago on my first OKA and your model is the same as mine so should be as easy. Hope this helps. Regards TONY ABE

As it is a pain of a job to do when the radiator is in and removal is a must to be able to fix it , before you put it back together i have made a cover plate that is in side the cabin right near the cable mount and removed that section big enough ot fit your hand in, to enable me to be able to repair it with out pulling it all apart also dont forget to reverse the pin so you can pull the split pin out with out struggling ,, have fun!

Thanks, Paul suggested I go about it the other way, remove fan, remove fibreglass shroud, drop steering linkage to get it out and then you can sit up in there and work on cable. It is just that every bolt you have to get to is in such a B*****d of a spot I'm lucky to have any skin left on my hands and arms. Just waiting on the cable to turn up and Then put it back together. I like the idea of a access panel, will have to have a look at that.

Tim did a write up on making an access cover which you can find here. Actually he made two access holes. James

Not to knock paul but to me that seems to be a long way around to just replace a throtle cable and if it breaks again you have to go through all that pulling apart it took me about 5 minutes to do the hole and cover plate , the hole is about 150x120 your choice but think about it before you pull it apart

I am in Zambia now and had a sticky throttle cable. first the pedal did not move smoothly then the pedal got stuck completly. I was able to make it back to the capital with the engine stuck at somewhere around 1700 RPM. The cable deteriorated within 2 hours, very strange!
I accessed the throttle cable after removing A/C and cooling radiators (and much more small stuff) and was able to remove the cable. It is completly stuck although it is not at all damaged from the outside.
A couple of questions asking for your advice: 1. Is there any way to get the cable working again, e.g. lubricant? 2. Do you have workaround sugesstions which will last for approx. 1000 kilometers. I am planning to leave on a bush trip through Zambia and Zimbabwe in three days! 3. Where can I get a replacement cable? Maybe another brand with similar cable dimensions will do?
Thanks for all your input!

From a thread here from ABE Tony "Apparently the inside of them is like a hessian material and does not like any lube on them as they come apart and bind up, so I was informed by one manufacture in Perth. Did not have any hope of fixing mine and could not pull it at all once out of machine, was really stuck solid."

Mine went solid the day after I changed the fuel filter above the injector pump. Cause I was told was the same does not like petrolium based products as the hessian material inside binds then. Now make sure no fuel gets there by putting a rag on the end of the cable, and one under the fuel bowl. No more troubles

Thanks for the feedback and offer to help. I managed to get a replacement made here in Lusaka, Zambia for around 100 US$. That is the great thing about countries in Africa; due to lack of spare parts a lot of things are repaired and refurbished were someone in a "developed" country woulfd not even look at the job due to the huge labour cost. The installation was taking time since I had to remove the radiator. You need some love for the OKA to accept that it needs a day to replace a simple throttle cable.

When i last blogged about throttle cable i had made a cover plate near the connection to the pedal , now i went one futher and put the cable on the inside of the cabin , i removed the cable altogether from its usuall place ,pulled off the throttle pedal and welded on a new cable puller ,fitted a new cable mount, it is easy to get to 3 screws on cover panel and you wouldnt know it was there,to replace the cable will a couple of minutes no unbolting fan and shroud and all the other bits and pieces cheers peter
