The new living quarters are well on the way to completion and the previous camper box is for sale. See for photos and more information. The camper came with OKA 123 as a very basic (almost) bare-shell Trayon-type camper and I spent three months lining and insulating the bare box plus building new furniture and adding all the extras that made our trip through the centre very comfortable. All the expensive stuff like the webasto heating and cooking units and the sink have been removed and installed in the new living quarters so it needs a few extras to make it fully usable again - mattresses and bedding, basic water pump and piping, reconnect the 12V and add a small camping stove and the usual kitchen and personal stuff and it would be ready to go with minimal work and outlay. 4 x 80 Litre water tanks that fit under the camper are included, as are the 4 lifting jacks. Bought the unit for $5000 and have spent a lot of time and a fair bit of money and effort to upgrade the living conditions so thought $5000 sale price would be a good starting point. Unit is at Bulahdelah NSW and I can be contacted on 0407 789 179 or email tony.lee.02@gmail.com

No, never got around to advertising it - other than here. Sort of planned to make an effort on eBay and such when I got back home from this trip Currently sitting on the jacks in the back yard.

Having trouble accessing the picasa album at the moment - and you will too -because I got caught up in the G+ circus trying to access my Picasa account, Inadvertently entered a very recent birthdate - 2000 instead of the 1900 I usually use and it has temporarily disabled that account for reasons best known to google. Reckons I'm too young to have one of their accounts

Hi Tony, are you happy with the Webasto Diesel stove. As you go further north on the CSR there is less to see so the northern half is quicker than the southern half. Enjoy Ewart

Hi Ewart I have the same Webasto cooker as Tony. They are really good. Our 12 litre diesel tank lasts about 3 weeks and it also supplies the Webasto hot water system. They get plenty hot enough and the output is adjustable right down so you can let a stew simmer for hours without worrying about burning it. A couple of downsides: The heat up time is fairly long. Not really a proposition for a quick cuppa. A disposable canister gas cooker is much better for this. They don't like running out of fuel. It takes a number of restarting attempts and resets of the electronics to get it going again. the system goes into lockout after three unsuccessful atttemps - forcing a system reset - a safety? feature. Because we have a separate diesel supply it is very easy to get caught with the wrong fuel. If we have been using it in the summer and the tank is full, then when winter comes and if the summer fuel is still in there the lines block up with wax - see above. The electronics in the dial controller are a bit suspect on stoves that have had a fair bit of use. We have about 250 members in another club and all the vans are fitted with these cookers so there is a fair bit of proof of their overall quality and relaibility. But overall we would definitely buy one again.

Thanks Peter, I am leaning towards a deisel stove so your information helps me greatly, also they can be used as a room heater. Ewart

We've got the Webasto diesel cooktop in the Oka, works very well, second Peter F's comments but we've never run it out of fuel so can't comment on that aspect. As Peter said it is too slow to boil water for a cuppa so we use an 240v electric jug and a normal 240v toaster for tea, coffee and toast. No gas onboard. We also have a Webasto Thermotop diesel burner for hot water and central heating as while the cooktop will heat the interior eventually the Thermotop does it pretty much straight away.

I will have an out side BBQ as well. Do you use the stove often and would you use an oven if you had one. Ewart

The stove is used at least twice a day, breakfast and dinner usually. If we need to cook outside it is usually on a fire or if no fire available then we use a single inductive cooktop plugged into the external powerpoint, as i said we don't have any gas so nothing to go boom. In our opinion an oven is a waste of space, especially in something as small as a an Oka. Most that have them rarely use them and plenty wish they could remove them. If we need to cook a roast it is in order of preference, camp oven either on the fire, on the diesel cooktop or the inductive cooktop.

Yes from what others say an oven is a waste, thanks Peter. Sorry Tony, I should have started another thread. Ewart

Google is a real pain - no second chance, no "are you sure that birthdate is correct", just abrupt cancellation and you have 28 days to satisfy them of your correct age. either allow them to charge your credit card 30Cents, or upload an image of a government-issued document with your DOB on it, or send it via snail mail. Method 1 is instant but couldn't get it to work. Method 2 took three days.

I drive. Betty cooks. But yes, I'm happy with the meals that come off the stove and Betty is quite comfortable using it. Does require adjustment - ie turn it on while still preparing the makings so that it is hot when you want to start. Takes about 4 minutes. One end is hotter than the other so generally possible to swab saucepans/frypans from one end to the other so that everything ends up cooked at the same time. Not hot enough to do traditional stir fry with a wok but good enough for normal dishes. We are enjoying the trip so far - at Durba Springs for a couple of nights - as are the tractors. Certainly the scenery is variable enough to make the trip interesting so far. More photos tonight on the other thread.
