Hi Hal/David

a couple of requests if they are possible

When sending PMs Is it possible to get rid of the "Captcha" field at the bottom of the PM. This is a PITA because (as happened today) if you get it wrong, the software doesn't take you back to the message and give you another chance to get it right, it just returns an error page and the message is lost. Is the Captcha really necessary because only members can send PMs? Is that so?

Is it possible to increase the number of the 'Latest Forum Posts' in the RH column. It would be useful when there are more than four topics active at the one time.

Thanks

Pete

Pete, I thought the "Captcha" only applied if you weren't logged in, but apparently not.

I've learned the hard way to "Select All" and "Copy" any text before pressing any buttons (or drag the text to a notepad/text edit window), then you can recover it. In some places the Back button works.

If you go to Forums and click View: Recent Topics it lists all topics by date, but it looks like four Latest Forum Posts is the limit on the home page.

If you open the Recent Topics page in a new Window or Tab you'll always have it handy but you'd need to refresh it from time to time.

I'll check these issues out.

Pete, you're not the only one to recognise the inadequacy of only having the four most recent topics up on the side there, but unfortunately that is it for now. I have asked the software provider to make it ten, and so have many others, but they steadfastly refuse to do it. I hold no hope for anything changing there in the foreseeable future.

What you can do, instead of having the home page as your destination page, is use http://www.oka4wd.com/apps/forums/?view_type=1 as your bookmark. That goes to the Forums page displayed as 'Latest Topics' rather than 'Normal'.

I'll do a bit more homework on the PM thing too. My computer crashes frequently enough that I am also in the habit of doing as David R recommends.

The most definitive answer I can come up with on the requirement for the Captcha thing in PMs is that nothing will change there either, sorry. It is actually there for a good reason, to stop spammers being able to send you rubbish. We regularly have spammers trying to become members, and if they succeed they can make a mess of things. We stop most of them back at the sign-up stage by being able to see their 'name' and email address, but there is always the risk that one will make it through that part of the process (it has happened in the past). Then they do however much spamming they get away with before one of the Administrators gets to delete them.

Hope this finds you and your family doing well at this time. I have not been a member for very long and am not very computer or Oka savvy but this site and the info obtained from it has been great. Bless you.

Cheers Greg, Pete... and everybody, I have just come to the realisation that when you first send somebody a PM (Private Message), you have to use the Captcha spam-proofing, but once the conversation has begun, you don't have to use it for subsequent PMs to that person. So it's not so bad. Just make sure you Copy that first message in case you lose it.
