As easter has come and nearly gonei thought it would be nice to start the old girl up as she has been a sleep for 8 months now and a few tickles of the switchess prime the pump and the way she went purring like kitten well may be not a kitten ...a perkins yeh! ive changed the switching gear for the tanks so it was testing time and success alls well .She is now about 75% finished and is looking good ,334 is different to the norm and the colour is great, two tone it has shocked a few people but the colour grows on you so it wont be long before it is on the road again doing what she was made for touring as long as me and the wife stop arguing over anything cheers peter

As Mick of Oka #236 is a better mechanic than computer operator, I can report we did the same with his Oka last week. The engine has not run since August last year, but one brief turn of the ignition key: and it worked, a Perkins purr as you said.
His van is not all done, but ready for road licence this week (after he got knocked back on a minor issue last week), and he had a colour change as well, sandy colour (mat).

Mick asked me to post this update.
Purchased August last year, unlicenced, equipped as fire-emergency vehicle for a mine site, with only 21,000 Km on the clock.
Finally #236 is on the road, although not finished yet. Mick is taken her (OKAs are ‘female’?) for a 6-8 week trip bush to the back of Willuna somewhere (NE of that), loaded with food, fuel and spare parts. Just waiting for the Eagle alloys to arrive, then he can have his Michelin XMLs fitted. But by the looks of it, he will be gone when they arrive.
Some of the jobs completed
· Removal of firefighting equipment
· Building a campervan body (2.1x3.7 mt) with poptop
· Added towbar
· Added plastic water tanks
· Changed to LSD on front
· Changed to 35 spline on front
· New wheel bearings front
· New brakes all way around
· Replacement of some waterhoses
· Now window winding mechanism
· New paint job (mat dessert yellow)
· Hundreds of small things fixed or replaced
Still to be completed
· Fitout as campervan
· Fitting HF radio
· Rear 35 spline axle
· Add large fueltank
· Customise trailer to match
· Outside cooking facilities in large drawer
· Add another battery and solarpanels

Hank, Mick might find that the rear drive shafts are already 35 spline, mine were.
I think that's the standard for Dana 60 and 70 diff gear splines (so it's the same with the front diff). It was only the outer front hub shafts that were 30 spline.
I could be wrong...

Nice job Mick!! looks really nice,Hank do you know what the camper body is made of and how much does it weight?,
David,the early Dana 70 had 32 splines.I think from memory Mick's have a fully floating 32

Thanks David and Joe, but I know Mick checked before he ordered, but....... I did not check mine and I ordered them, thinking they were all the same..... ooops....
The box has a steel 50x50mm frame, covered with 4 mm marine ply, and in turn covered with zincalume (I think), all held in place with a thousand tubes of Sikaflex.

For anyone who is building another box on the chassis, please call me first, I will buy some shares in Sikaflex prior to you starting!
Eh, .......the steel frame could have been 40x40 mm. Weight was 3640 Kg, with one fuel tank half full, no water on board, fitout virtually non-existent apart for frames for double bed and cupboards, without the towhitch (I just weighed mine: 27 kg as per “Tow hitch” thread), with one sparewheel (all 5 were the old 16 “ split rims), 2 batteries on board, standard bulbar, no winch.

I really like that style of camper body you have, would be nice to see how the interior is fitted out once you have finished it.
Just out of curiosity, how long and wide is the camper body ?

Hi Mick
This Oka is not mine, but Mick's (another one). From memory, size of the box is 3750x2150x1650 mm, length and width are outside measurements, height inside, with poptop down. Can't ask or check anymore, as he (the other Mick) has gone, and won't be back until mid June.
