Just wondering how often others change their engine oil and filter. From memory the Perkins book says 10,000 km. I change both at 5000 km but is that over doing it. However if the truck is on the go every day on a long trip I tend to go a bit further between changes.Change is done when engine has been warmed up.

I change my oil, oil filter and fuel filters every 5K too Peter, probably over doing it but that's me :-)

307 is on LPG as well which apparently extends oil changes. Maybe I should have oil tested. I don't know what that costs or who does it!

Peter, do you find that the LPG helps power when on full throttle? I had an LPG system on a Land Rover that seemed to help power when switched on at part throttle, but at full throttle it made no difference at all when timed with a stop watch.

Hi Paul
I find the LPG doesn't make a great difference to power, not very noticeable. It does seem to make a difference to fuel economy. For a noticeable change in power put in an intercooler, its cheaper and you can install yourself. The fuel economy did seem to go down though. Turbo exhaust temperature also dropped with the intercooler.

Peter
The Perkins book says 8000km which is what I do. I figure that if 8k km was OK in 1995 then with better oils it should be better than OK now

Thanks Peter, I will look into the inter-cooler route. I don't mind losing a bit of economy for lower EGT and a little more power.

I found the longer I left the oil change the more oil the Perkins used. First 3000km not even noticeable from then on it used enough to top it up every couple of days or 1600km. Our trips are between 8 to 12000km so it got changed before each trip. The two trips I've run the Cummins I do the same and it doesn't use any.
