Hi all ,
Been a while sorting some things out.. Getting there. Also cant post from my IPAD? if any one can help ?
I'm at the stage of running [making] the radiator hoses. These need to fit from an LT radiator on an LT cab to an XT everything else. I'm baffled how they get them to the motor and back with out interference. I have the XT Schematics but not the LT.
Can any one offer a copy of schematic or pics?
Thanks

Sorry I don't have pics. But this is to note iPad weirdness... I replied to your other 'iPad post' via the mobile site open on the iPad in another tab; and now I can type this reply on the iPad open alongside it in the normal format. I didn't expect that.

The pipework is steel tube, runs along the chassis on both sides up to the radiator on an LT.
The connections to the actual radiator are approriate lengths of straight generic radiator hose bought pretty much anywhere.
The moulded hoses from the engine to the steel piping are available from Oka at a reasonable price, I suspect they may be from another vehicle though.

Hi All,
I've got an XT and am researching radiator options for now and for possible engine upgrades later. Just wondering if anyone can give me the dimensions of the radiator core on the LT?
Cheers,
Al

Alister,LT radiator dimensions as follow
O/A width including tanks 975mm
Core width 823mm
O/A height including top and bottom channels 440mm
Core height 397mm
Core thickness at the tanks (tank base plate) 80mm
Core thickness 46mm, two rows of 12-13 mm tubes

That's interesting; in a link that Alister put up in another post re thermatic fans, there is mention of a rule of thumb for radiator size being surface area = engine capacity plus 10-50%.... e.g. includes >> Sizing the face area of a radiator core to have one square inch for every cubic inch of displacement has been around for a long time (400 ci. engine matched to a 20"x20" radiator). This rule of thumb does not work everywhere (dry deserts need more face area) so some add 10% or more extra face area <<.

The core width x height for the LT translates to a surface area of 500 sq. inches; a Perkins capacity plus 50% is only 360 cu. inches. So the radiator really does have a lot of capacity. I know mine always runs at the bottom of the green unless towing on a hot day into a headwind.

Thanks guys.

Yep, looks like the LT radiator core is roughly 1.3 times the size of the XT radiator although the XT is a 3 core standard. However, the LT dual 1/2" tube core rad is probably equivalent in cooling thickness anyway so you probably do have 1.3 times the cooling capacity! Yes Hal, with the perk i'd say you're very safe from overheating!

My standard XT rad seems to be close to the limit with the standard engine (although it is in pretty shabby cond), and since Tim Forsyth had to upgrade his rad when he did the wastegated turbo power upgrade i'd say there's room for improvement. ie while i'm getting it recored i may aswell add a couple of rows and i'm looking at re-jigging the orientation of the rad to fit another 100-150mm of core height aswell (changing it from about 500x500mm to 500x600mm'ish) so any engine exchange in the future (looking at a possible Cummins upgrade, seems not a bad option) will be catered for.

Was wondering about the size of the LT rad because i've seen one recently which is getting the Cummins upgrade and should have no prob's with cooling but has a beefed up LT rad, so trying to work out an equivalent...

Anyway, thanks for the info guys!
Cheers,
Al

Al, Paul Nott has radiators the same size as the LT but with three rows of tubes, pipes are in the opposite location as these were for the V8 petrol OKAs.

How hard would it be to fit an LT radiator to an XT?
