Any reason why the LS oil specified for the rear limited slip diff can't be used in the front non-LS diff?

If not, does it matter if the oil in the front diff ends up being a mixture?

Not concerned with price differences, just the space that separate oils take up.

Ah, OK - forgot the gearbox uses gear oil as well as the front diff so unless the LS oil works in the gearbox, I still need to carry both.

Drat - running out of room.

Tony, two things..are you sure that you have a LSD in your rear?,LSD oil can safely be used in open diffs as the LSD need additives to keep the clutches working and lasting same goes with the g/box,if youre not happy with the mixing you can allways get the oils replaced at a major town but at least you know that you are OK with the lubrication in general and no harm will be done
cheers

Is there a quick and simple way of identifying whether a diff is LSD or not. Think there may have been a tab washer under the diff cover bolt but this could easily be left off when changing the oil. Also is it easy to identify and tighten the crown bolts. Thanks

You should be able to identify the different as an open one, or if it is a limited slip Genuine type or if it has an ARB air one by looking at it. Open Has nothing in it. ARB will have an airline going to it and the OKA one or Rockwell type will have a clutch pack in the centre.
Yes the bolts on the crown wheel are easy as they will be looking at you as they are in the crown wheel.
Tighten them is also easy just do them up and I do that with a socket and a long bar, have not worried about Tension Rate as I have not found the lbs it should be and I check mine front and rear every 10,000 klm's as that is when I change the oil.
Front I do more than that as I run in the ocean sometimes as I have to here and it sucks in sea water via the differential seals, due to the temperature and pressure difference. Have extra sealing devices on as well but will be fitting a 2 lb pressure air line to the front differential to eliminate this, as they extra inside pressure should keep out the water.
I am sure that someone will comment and give you the exact foot lbs for the bolts.

Regards and hope this helps
