See that the OKA literature recommends a straight motor oil, but Perkins don't seem to care too much and just base it on the likely operating temperature range.
Any reason not to use say 15W-40 which unlike aa single grade, does cover the whole temperature range we are likely to meet (sometimes in one day in the outback)

No problems Tony with 15w 40 as long as it is rated for turbo charged diesel engines

We used an average of a litre per 1000klms even when it had only done 60,000klms, using Castrol RX Super
Robin Wade put us onto Fuchs Lubricants Titan Universal HD40 and we now use about a third.
This is a straight 40w.
We have used only this since 2005.
It is not cheap the last 20litre drum in 2007 cost $83.
