Hi
I just received my Eagle Alloys 058's 16 x 10 and did a test fit on one of my front axels. The alloy rim is binding on the brake caliper or I should say the wheel weight is binding on the caliper. How close is the brake caliper normally? I am trying to determine whether the wrong rims were sent.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,
I have just looked at my 058’s 16 x 10, I have about 3mm clearance between the calliper and rim, my wheel weights are right up inside the rim. Hope that helps.
regards, Chris

3mm that would do it, I will just shift the weights and see what happens.
Thanks

Chris, this pic isn't a 058 but it is a 16x10, on a rear hub. I would call that for less than 3mm. These wheel/tyres are internally (powder) balanced, no external weights, and that works perfectly. Recommendable.

Thanks Hal
That sure is close, I wondered whether that internal powder worked, obviously it does.

If you go with the powder, make very sure they fit dust filters to the inside of the stems. Alternatives using beads may not be such a problem.
Powder can cake if you don't use dry air all the time so may not be the best solution if you are inflating tyres in the field.

That clearance is very close on my 16x8 Eagle alloy's, only a couple of mm, cleans the mud off the inside of the rim well though
)
I'll second Tony's statemant on the powder, areal pain in the bum if deflating tires for sand work as it clogs the valves even with filters fittted, also clumps if you don't use dried air to re inflate. Normal driers fitted to most compressors won't dry the air enough either. I ran three different powders (all donated for testing purposes) in the 37" tyres on the Humvee and they all clumped and blocked the valves, the tyre fitters hated removing and installing tyres with the stuff in them too.
