Hi all,
I've put this post up on the Facebook groups and I've had some great replies. So I'm looking for a solution from XT owners that have converted to the Perkins 6 cylinder engine. I’m getting my head around the gear shifter interference issue by possibly using an LT shifter but what did you do to solve the transfer case shifting. On my conversion the turbo pushes transfer case rod way out of position to the right and using an LT shift box I still need to come up with a transfer case shifter. This isn’t a problem with the LT as it has a cable shifter for the transfer case. I’d love to see what others have done. Thanks.

Hi Paul,
Did you use the xt shifter box to pick up the front end of the cable for your transfer shifter ? I know you made your own cable shift setup for the main box but I wasn't sure if you somehow incorporated that into the original console shifter or not.
Cheers, Dane

No Dane, I made up a box that included the two levers. The transfer lever is at the left in the picture. It is quite simple - the lever pivots on a bolt between two bearings in housings that are sitting on posts. The lever is about 250mm above the pivot point, the cable attaches about 50mm below the pivot.

Hi Paul,
That looks a great setup. Is the action of the transfer case smooth and easy to use. And did you attach your cable to the original shift lever on the t-case or remove it and go straight to the crossbar between the two shift links?

Hi Bart, Yes, the change is very smooth, much better than with the old very, very, VERY worn linkages.
This is a pic from underneath
It is a bit difficult to explain ........ but is is simple, a lever mounted at the base on a 'pillow block' bearing with the lever used to reduce the cable travel down to the required transfer box travel. This is done to increase the cable travel thus reducing the load on the cable.
Pity we don't live closer... much easier to see it than describe it!

Bart, we are near Bega, on the South coast of NSW. Somehow I got the idea that you were in W.A... Melbourne is not so bad, but still a long walk away!

G'day Paul, yes Bega is still a fair trot away. I recently visited my son in Perth and whilst there I went to see Frank Thomas who also has a cable shift. After seeing his set up we bought a shifter off him and set up a mock up to try. We then went down to see Dane with Oka162 south of Perth top test our mock up and after taking a few measurements my son made up a shift box using the shifter from frank which we heavily modified and also a redesigned shift plate to use the LT shift box on the XT. There's still a few wrinkles to iron out but we're happy that it will be a solution for the XT.

Great Bart, looks like you are well on the way. Maybe we will cross paths at the Oka meet in April.
