Getting wildly varying prices for the brake caliper retaining wedge and spring and a set of brake pads.

Anyone got a recent price for these parts?

Tony, have you check with Paul Nott,I got some off him and the prices were very reasonable, can't remember of the top of my head, also the ones he supplied the "h" have a much better profile and a better fitting than some others available,I think Paul still away for another week or two.

Yes, a case of OKA dealer, fix thine own breakdowns. Clutch replacement apparently. Ceramic or organic, that is the question

I paid $216 for a full set of brake pads late last year. Off the shelf in Adelaide thru my mechanic at Saint Marys.
TRW GDB7604 (Aust Ref 7081A). Pevious were PROTEX , CS7081ADM, PT05011.
There are several wedge thicknesses. They have a number on them.
I replaced my ceramic clutch 150,000km ago with another the same. No complaints, but I can't compare.

Cheers,
Peter

"There are several wedge thicknesses. They have a number on them."

Ah, yet another useful bit of information that explains why I havee two quite different wedges in my spare parts kit. One wide one that matches what is already in the four wheels and one narrower one that Robin sent me. The narrow one seems to be the same as the ones the Out Yondah OKAs were using and they had lost at least two so that might be a cause for concern with my narrow one. Gave him one of my spares and he gave me $50 which I thought was a pretty good deal until I got the bill for the replacement - $96+GST!!!!!!!!!!!??????
How does one know which one to use. Is it a matterr of wear between the sliding parts or (unlikely) difference in sizes as manufactured. Does using one that is too narrow result in slop and so cause faster wear?? Or does it just fall out?

I got one axle set of Protex CS7081ADM brake pads from ABS in Adelaide for about $60 (or was that just a pair? I can't recall) around 3 years ago so they must be fairly readily available.

I got a few wedges and hex bolts direct from Oka but they were standard size and they had no oversize versions. Our previous owner was a bush mechanic and had laid down some weld on the back of the wedges to create an oversize version. They work fine.

I also had problems with loose callipers, presumably due to wear, so I made up some steel spacers to reduce the movement of callipers and pads (at top and bottom). The straps preventing the calliper (and wedges) from ever falling out were also the idea of the previous owner. They need fixing holes drilled and tapped into the calliper.

In general terms use the thickest one that you can get in to take up the wear Tony.
I think I am on max now of about 4 alternatives available.
I here about them falling out. I lost a spring clip last year, my first loss, but I have never done anything special.
Also hear of people bogging them up with high temperature silicone to stop bits falling out. Do the screw up 'pretty tight'.
"Does using one that is too narrow result in slop and so cause faster wear?? Or does it just fall out? "
Yes......... :-(
Dunno where to buy them David.

Either East coast OKA or Kalgoorlie OKA. East coast have the thicker ones and Robin supplied the thin one which I might send back because the wider ones fit quite nicely.

Don't remember what east coast charged for each key and spring but Robin charged over $100 which seems a lot to me.

I have all standard & oversize brake wedges in stock, and they are correct fitment for the Oka. Also carry calipers & quality American/Canadian disc rotors, not cheap Chinese ones that crack.

Great to see you on here Oka Paul ( = Paul Nott, East Coast Oka).

I don't think you or pretty much anybody else should get into putting prices on here though - remember what appears on here is hopefully still going to be on the www in five, ten, 20 years time - so the more 'timeless' the information can be, the better.

There is always the PM (private message) system to use - just click on the name or photo of the person you want to contact in any of these topics, then in the left column again click 'Send a Message'... fill in the boxes... send it off.

Just please note that when you get an email notification that you have a PM, you do need to go to this site to reply to it (there is a link on the bottom of the email); if you simply reply to the email notification, it comes to me! I forward them on of course, but you don't need me sticking my nose in.

I know who Oka Paul is when posting

Yes the internet is a place for ever and many forget this.
Paul is a great assett to the OKA world and has helped many people, many times over.

However I dont agree that put prices should not be posted here, We all need to save a dollar, but Paul mentioned that he has better rotor.

I cant see how putting a price on the forum can do any harm, it may even give Paul more business.
If he qoutes a price on the forum, I am sure we are all smart enough to realise that the price qouted is not set in concrete for ever

I don't think prices are that relevant to every one, like if you buy a few hundred worth of parts you will like a bit of a better deal than some one who gets their two dollars worth,it's only commercial sense,I can only speak for myself and Paul ALLWAYS had the time to answer a call, sourcing can be a very costly bussines and is all relevant some people like their annonimity and some will like to keep commercial interest private.
cheers
