Hey guys,
Just wondering if there is anywhere that has a fairly comprehensive list of common and handy tools to have, such as wheel bearing sockets etc and common spanner sizes? I have a lot of tools from working in workshops but most of it was for Cruisers and Patrols, hence mostly metric, I don't have much imperial stuff.
Is it possible to make a list or a new thread and make it a 'sticky', so it always stays at the top of the thread list and is easy to find and all in one spot, i suppose people could always add to it when they find a way to fix something or have an idea.
Just wanting to start geting a few things for when mine gets here.
Cheers
Luke

Luke, metric sizes will do for most Oka work. There are some exceptions like a 2 1/2 inch box spanner for the wheel bearing lock nuts, the diff pinion nuts (can't recall the size, still on the road) and the American gearbox/transfer box/axle fixings, which are Imperial, but hopefully you wouldn't need those too often.
I prefer the Metrinch range if you can find them as they cover metric and imperial sizes in the one tool (see here) and they operate more effectively on the flat rather than the corner of the bolt.
Best advice is to wait til you've got your Oka and see what you need. Some sockets will need to be deep types (eg U-bolt and body mounting nuts) which you can best judge when you see them.
Some places you can't get a socket in (eg starter motor mounting bolts), so equivalent ring/open ended spanners are needed.
I haven't come across many Oka-specific tools but a torque wrench is vital for critical maintenance.
Depending on where your Oka has been maintained it may well have a range of different fixing sizes used from standard. Bush mechanics use whatever is to hand.

Thanks David, sounds like i'll probably have most things already, except for a few things then. I have a few torque wrenches and the Kincrome Road Train toolbox which is overflowing at the moment.
thanks

" the diff pinion nuts (can't recall the size,"
1 5/16" I think - only available in 3/4 drive I think

Tony, not sure about the 3/4 in drive for the diff pinion socket but my 2 1/2 in box spanner for the wheel bearing lock nuts certainly has a 3/4 in drive so a 1/2 to 3/4 inch converter is very useful.
