Just a question.

How far & wide are we all traveling to get away at Easter?

Been a long time since I have been to Lawn Hill. I will bet that the Gregory River and surrounding area will be just as great as when I was last there. Gregory Pub was always a great thirst quencher. Have a fat time and enjoy.

Chris, Lawn Hill is a great place to visit, but not so good on our last visit in 2010 was Adel's Grove nearby.

It had changed hands and had become very expensive (compared with the National Park campsite) and unfriendly. We had a terse exchange of views (something I normally reserve for Telstra) and they said the NP was booked out, although it looked pretty empty to us, but since they now handle bookings for the park, we had little choice. It was primitive and messier than previous visits but may (hopefully) have changed in the past 4 years.

Riversleigh Fossil Reserve is worth a visit about 50km south of Lawn Hill and if you camp down that track you can avoid NP crowds.

There's also a nice country drive north from Lawn Hill to Kingfisher Camp on the Nicholson River which is a very scenic and relaxing camping area. It's only about 150km but the track passes though cattle stations with a few creeks to cross so we took couple of days to do it. We've done it a couple of times but not this early in the season so creek conditions may be challenging (Lawn Hill Creek, Elizabeth Creek and the Nicholson River).

However this Easter we are planning a short trip to Melbourne, hardly outback travel, but we are expecting our first grandchild next week so a mandatory visit is expected.

Hi David,

Thanks for the info, we have visited Lawn hill (Adels Grove) in June 2013 and had no problems with management, in fact we enjoyed it so much it’s the reason for our return, we are yet to visit the fossil reserve and that will be done this trip.

We did travel thru to Kingfisher via Bowthorn station that same year.

It’s just a quick trip of 7 days for us from Townsville so a little limited with additional side trips.

Regards, Chris.

Might do it myself.

Depends if I can get 281 ready enough........

I think its about a 3500 km round trip.

Other wise might plan something else. Only problem is that Easter is still a little early to be playing around in the Top End.....

Ah 351 will be heading south from central NSW and onto the Spirit
towards Tasmania.
Actually I hope it reaches the Apple Isle.
Haven't been there yet, so really looking forward to it.
I'm glad I have upgraded to an OKA for this trip as the cost on the
Spirit for a Pajero and Camper trailer is ridiculous.

Happy Easter everyone and safe travels.

Cheers Brian

Heading to Dirk Hartog island this weekend, minus OKA, back Easter Sunday.

I want to suss the new barge out first hand before I risk turning #234 into an artificial reef.

Cheers, Tony
