From another thread....

In my recent "misadventure" with #196, the arm that holds the safety loop impacted the geared starter motor, completely destroying it.
In "normal" operations, it has previously touched the starter (but not done any damage).
I have fabricated (but not yet fitted) a new safety loop which will be bolted directly to the horizontal cast webs at the rear of the front diff housing. I will bolt it relatively close to the edges of those webs so in a major impact, it breaks bits off the webs rather than smash the diff housing.
It will be shorter and lighter than the original and in several pieces so I can remove it without dropping the tailshaft.

Anyone give me a good reason not to proceed with this?
Cheers,
Peter

As an idea...
if you parted the piece in the middle of the long RHS, then you could bolt a 125-mm long sleeve on both of the cuts... assuming that there is an RHS that is semi snug, Then the bolts should hold if they are M8 or bigger???

I think we are thinking in the same direction?
Some pics...
The Diff....

This bolts onto the flanges each side of the diff (it is up-side-down in the pic). It has to clear the universal joint. 2 x M8 bolts each side.

The loop bolts onto the bit above...(currently fabricated longer than it needs to be).

Personally If I was to bolt a girde/truss into the diff, then I would make it smethint strengthen the whole diff.

Then just hang your hoop off of that?

My hoop departed me factory 25mm RHS at the end... so I think something needs that be strong.
