That is all just a front to disguise the real purpose of the lining. Very cunning forward thinking. 15 years forward thinking in fact.
The foam is there to absorb the water that comes in all the roof joints and the holes are to let excess out so it can drip on the floor - and the seats - and ...
Am going to paint the roof with thermaguard anyway so that will block up all the seams after I give them a good scraping and prime and hopefully the water hasn't done too much damage to the seemingly sound lining in the crew cab. In the front cab, where the roof lining was totally shot, the roof doesn't leak anyway so figure that one out.

Tony, it's probably obvious but when moving, water can flow horizontally or up hill. So check how the water gets to the seams. Along front edges etc. Otherwise it will find the one place you didn't seal properly.
On a similar same subject, if the gutters can overflow, water will hit the tops of the door and can pour inside through the seals making the seats wet. I've put a strip of aluminium tape along the gutters so the drip line is beyond the door. Problem solved.

Yes, close inspection showed a few places where the lap seals might have failed. The leak in the crew cab was after some heavy rain and the OKA was sitting still so the central join in the crew cab was the main suspect. The other place that was a bit suspect was all the buttons sealing the threaded holes for mounting the roof rack although water getting in there wouldn't show up as wet headlining.. Scraped all the roof seams, applied a "rust sealer" and it is half way through getting a total of 6 coats of paint before mounting the solar panels (on brackets Sikened to the original roof paint).
Hopefully good for another 15 years.

The 'central join' is notable no longer there on the NT model. For those who do have a roof that needs replacing, the good news is that the NT roof will fit on the XT and LT, and the panel is available for purchase from OKA and isn't very expensive..
David Gray has done this on XT137 Dual Cab, and says the way to go is to sikaflex and rivet it on, rather than spot weld; best to contact him for the finer details, but I remember mention of special panel rivets as used by Kenworth (?) - he's the expert on this kind of stuff, not me.
The buttons sealing the threaded holes are definitely suspect; when I came to use the holes after a few years, they all required re-tapping to clean out corrosion in the threads. Rather than leaving caps, even if you're not using the holes, it would be a good idea to replace all the caps with stainless button head cap screws (and anti-sieze); a better seal and the holes will be as good as new in 15 years or whenever you might want to use them.

Adhesive is part no 17059517
I have been told that Sorber Foam has been improved since the XT LT days and no longer disintegrates to dust due to moisture
Pyrotek also supply the original OKA vinyl coated foam floor covering and an upgraded version of the fireproofed sound absorbent foam used around the engine

we replaced the terribly leaking roof panel with a genuine lt one piece panel on xt 71. was a relatively easy operation using sealed rivets and sikaflex with a few spot welds accross the windscreen panel. roof lining was sourced from local motor trimmer, whole job came up a treat and nice and dry seats as a bonus!

Yes, i went to the local sheet metal shop (a mate owns it) and made up a one piece roof, looks really good! No more water dripping on the dash switches etc... What was in their minds when they made a seam in the roof and spot welded it together, must have been to make sure it rusted!!! Anyway, enough oka-ism bashing... There's a fix for all of them

I decided after a couple of years of trying to find the origin of the leak, copious amounts of silicon and then bitumen emulsion over the whole roof and STILL leaking .... To bite the bullet and kill two birds with one stone and install a full length tropical roof that both keeps us dry in the wet season and cool in the sunny season!
