Hi all
Im Dan
I currently own and use a 2006 78 Series Troopcarrier 1HD-FTE 4.2DI Turbo.
I've been on the road for 10 weeks relocating to Perth.

Im now looking for an Oka to buy to use as a long range tourer and long term live in vehicle.

Got the bug for the Oka a couple of yrs back after seeing one in Cairns.

Im currently looking at a few in different places, NSW, SA and Coolgardie in WA.

Are there really 1 owner from new vehicles still out there, is it possible to have an Oka 1993 with only 124,000km on the clock?

Any info or help on what to buy or not to buy would be helpful.

Dan

Hi Dan,

Whilst there may still be one owner low km OKA's out there don't let this be the major criteria in your selection of one. If the 'one owner' has been a mining company or tour operator the OKA will have been well used and may be (over)due for major overhaul. Don't let this totally put you off though as the OKA was designed to be seriously used and to be pulled down for refurbishment. It is not a big deal to do this if you can 'spin a spanner'. With any 20+ year old vehicle it's not just the physical wear and tear but 'ageing' of components especially rubber and plastic parts that will need replacing regardless of Kms travelled.

The OKA is a very basic machine and most parts are readily available either from Alan over there in WA or Paul Nott and Ian Jones here in Victoria and possibly others. Be careful of buying parts elsewhere, eBay for example, as they may claim to fit the OKA and look similar eg. brake master cylinder, but not suitable and in some cases eg. wheel bearings, disc pads and rotors, extremely over priced.

OKA Pete over here is worth contacting as he deals in used OKA's.

Hi Dan,

I bought 351 a couple of years ago now and I was the third owner.
Purchased with just 170k on the clock. It hadn't been in the mines
and was purchased and converted by the first owner, then re converted
by the second and then re converted again by me.
I still get comments about my new vehicle and when I tell them it is
a 1995 model, they can't believe it.

I think the moral is to not jump in too quick and buy when you are
ready and happy with your purchase.

Cheers and happy oka'ring in the future.

Hi Dan. Yes they do exist. I found a 1 owner camper with 80 odd K on the clock with a 135Ti under the engine cover. Very happy with my choice.

The electronic speedo has a habit of stripping gears and not counting km's around 70-100K km's so check the speedo is spinning numbers and ask the question.

The history of most OKA's build numbers is easy to trace through Alan at OKAParts or on here.

There are a few good vehicles on the market atm. Gumtree has several listings.

As Deano said, don't rush and feel free to ask shitloads of questions on here.

Cheers, Tony

As all states above.

Dont let KMS or Age determine your choice.

Ask lots of questions, Learn as much as you can.

OKA`s have several common design faults, nothing terminal.

Plenty of knowledge here and most OKA` history is known to someone here. Or Al at OKA Parts.

Hi Dan
I bought my campervan from its first owner with 69k Km on the clock (that was nearly 4 years ago). Mick bought his (OKA #236, that now 'Rainmaker' owns) with 21k Km (that was a mining company firetruck).
As others said already it is not the low Km what may be important, more so how it was used and maintained.
