Allan from Perth, just purchased build # 167 from Penrith in Sydney, formerly "Boomerang Adventure Tours" Big adventure driving it back? Formerly owned a Canter dual cab 4 x 4 with an AMEZ tour bus back on it, that was pretty awesome but real 4wdriving was limited with the duals on the rear, sold that and went to a straight bus for a while, life was pretty boring and the kids started whinging about more adventure and proper camping, so back to the drawing board. Research provided no realistic way of transporting 10 people a 5.54ton van and 4wd capability other than an Iveco (really expensive) or a troopy? could you imagine 8 kids after 3 hours driving in a troopy? While pondering all this one day I recalled looking enviously as the odd OKA went by and thought that maybe the minister of finances could stretch that far? quick bit of research and consultation, equalled a realistic possibility, further enquiries accidentally led to a deal that was almost to good to be true. (went to buy one in Vic but ended up with one in Sydney)
I have had issues with transporting large items over from Sydney and did not want to part with cash sight unseen, so tickets purchased and away i went, somewhere at about 20,000 feet i realized I haven't even been behind the wheel of an Oka before, yet here i was about to purchase one? short of it all. I was definitely in love with the concept and history of the Oka, now Im happy to say that after 4 thousand km's and a few hiccups, I am more impressed than ever with the vehicle, yes all the standard issues are their in the basic build but they are surmountable and the feel, comfort level, ability, safety factor are all way up there as well as a little bit of Aussie pride.
Now just getting it over the pits!!!!! then off to Allan's OKA parts for a check up, then start planning the trips away? wife wants South, 2 kids want North, 6 foster kids want anywhere that involves bush? I'm thinking a quick coastal trip via the bight, then left at Port Augusta to Ularoo and back via the grand central 2 - 3 weeks should be a nice little shake down trip.
Hope to see a few of you out and about, as with most other owners if your in these parts and need help, info or just a friendly face, feel free to drop us a line 08 9529 1963

Hey anyone have any idea on the "LUFT AIR" button on the dash?

They are either for an electric compressor for the automatic steps (on the bus model), or an engine mounted "Magnum" compressor, if fitted.

If its the dash fan its easy to replace. They can be brought easily enough.
Al should be able to steer you in the right direction.
Depending on funds, I would get him to replace the roof. Not an expensive job, but one that stops the chance of the roof leaking. Starting rust in the cab.
Don't forget to see Joe, he has been known to lurk around at OKA and OKA parts and knows heaps.

A camper trailer with OKA rims has come up for sale again in South Australia on Gumtree, it's more than likely the one you had your eye on, and from memory it looks like the price has dropped a far bit.
Cheers Peter.
