New Members Trever and Mary Holt

Hi all , just introducing ourselves, we have recently purchased Oka 146 and intend turning this bus into a motor home. We hail from Esperance in W.A. Have been associated with Okas for a number of years as have done many trips with Brett and his off road support vehicles, Trev riding his trail bike and Mary as cook on these excursions. Last trip we did was the Desert Roundabout where we had the pleasure to meet Deano and Kaye, Chris & H, and Rob in their Okas. This last trip convinced us Okas are the way to go, especially after seeing the great set ups our travelling companions had. Looking forward to many future adventures.

One little thing though, you may need to modify your driving technique a little to get the best out of the Oka.




Not sure how the Oka suspension will stand up to this sort of treatment.

Hi Deano & Kaye, , yes I agree. Trev has already decided he is putting a motorbike rack on the back of the Oka, does that mean I will have to learn to drive the beast?
Yes would be great to do another adventure together at some stage.

Deano, Trev said to let you know he has ordered new shockies for the Oka!!!

Have started stripping the OKA. All rear seats bar two removed, Roofrack removed and also the heavy wheel carriers and towbar (been replaced with a more compact one) all these items have been given to good homes! Have removed airconditioning ducting in the rear of the bus (now registered as a panel van) in readiness for removal of the roof to put a hi riser on and then it will be the interior fit out. Doing Kimberley trip with 2 other Oka owners in July, so probably will not have not too many mods done by then but at least we have heaps of camping gear we can use if need be in the mean time.

Have put new shockies all round, and new steering damper, given it a full service, replaced spotlights, and put LED indicators on the front. Rear door will be removed and opening filled in. So that's a start.......! plenty of work ahead but will be worth it.

Yes David and Janet we look forward to meeting other Oka owners "somewhere in the great outdoors". Just love this great country of ours, especially the outback, so much to see, we will be travelling the Kimberley for 4-5 weeks, so who knows. Trev did the Cairns to Cape York a few years ago on one of those Motorbike tours and is keen to show me the area as he and our son and another mate rated the area highly, maybe next year?

Going full steam ahead in between other jobs.Tailgate now removed, area to be filled in. Fixed a bit of water damaged area at rear replaced with new marine ply, removed roof lining and bar work, ready for removal of roof, and making new hi riser roof!! So much to do so little time.....haha. Obviously going to take some time to do all the mods. At least we think we have a workable floor plan??
