As it has been quiet on the east coast of late socially, I would like to suggest the idea of a get together on the Australia day long weekend in Vic. Maybe somewhere in the High country or where ever, just to get the Okas & owners out of the shed & together. What are your thoughts people?

My family and I will be travelling back from 6 week Tassie trip (to NSW) about that time. Plan on coming up the coast from Melbourne. May be able to squeeze in a side trip.

Ace guys, I was thinking maybe Mayfords valley, similar to Wanangatta valley but better I think. Its up the northern end of the High Country, easy access from Bright, & close to Blue Rag Range,& a couple of huts, a nice river flowing through it to swim & relax. Thats just my thoughts, if anyone has other suggestions, here is the place, throw them in the mix. It would just be nice to get an east coast gathering going.

Might have a bit of work to do now, auto has had an internal problem and we're limping home, still working ok but is running hot.
Only about 100k from home so could be worse, just very hot weather today so it takes an age to cool down before we can travel on. Don't want to cook it so taking it slow and steady. At least we've got the full camper facilities and its not too uncomfortable.

Thanks Rob, we made it home about 5.30pm after spending more of the day letting it cool down than driving. Looks like one of the clutches has started to let go and something is blocked stopping the cooling circuit working. The auto still runs properly without any obvious problem just gets hot, so we drive for an hour and then let it cool for about two so has been a leisurely trip home, from Beresfield on a tilt tray that just happened to be returning to Dungog empty which was lucky. Was quite funny driving it on and the front of the truck lifting off the ground about 2 feet!

Good news on one front. Will be interesting to see what's gone wrong, maybe cummins sooner rather than later?

Sounds interesting, both the get-together and the idea of Mayford.
Haven't been to Mayford since 2003, we were there the day the Alpine fires started. Whole area was burnt out a week later. Lovely spot then, it should have recovered.

Hi Rasa & everyone else,

Mayfords is in the north end of the Victorian High Country. Directions from Bright...

Follow Great Alpine Rd from Bright for approx. 20kms (approx!!), through Harrietville and up the windies (winding roads) to Mt St Bernard. Then turn right onto Dargo-High Plains Rd (If you hit Rene's, look out! You have gone too far.)
After turning right onto Dargo-Highplains rd (gravel), travel approx 8-10kms. Then turn left onto King Spur track (you will know that you are in the right place when you turn in and you go over a small mound of dirt in front of you. There will be Lanky Plain Hut.)
Follow Kings Spur (keep left) along the edge of the bluff which is always on your left (views to Hotham Heights/Mt Hotham) past Long Spur Track off to your right and continue to follow Kings Spur Track. Some sections are off camber and rocky, and then a long straight descent down towards Mayfords.
Follow Main Track and cross Dargo River 3 or 4 times in quick succession, and you will come out into Mayfords.
We will try to get one of the big campsites up the valley on the right hand side, along the river.

Cheers,
Darren

Darren, can you tell me please what the roads in are like? My camper is pretty big, over 3 metres tall, and doesn't like overgrown tracks very much. Thanks, Paul
