155 changed hands in 2013. I remember Hal saying it had moved up my way and to keep an eye out for it.

Cheers, Tony

Around about 1995 or so I met Oka 155 at Durba Spring on the Canning. Owned then by Allan and Hetti Mills of Busselton. Hetti was an artist painting at Durba. I met them a couple of times out there. Last year I saw it in a car yard on Welshpool Rd.

Well a Unimog. Some may be interested to know that Jim Curtin's Unimog features in this months CMCA Wanderer magazine. Jim brought his Unimog to Lloyds in NSW many years ago for a combined Oka/gyrocopters get together. It is an impressive machine and it was a great weekend.

thanks Peter interesting article
Recently met a unimog up near Woods Pt. We were returning down a narrow track where his Unimog would not fit. Owner stopped us and was really interested in our OKA especially as he could not get up the track that runs past the best campsites up by the Ovens.
His biggest gripe was its size and max 90km/hr on highway with standard gearing. I did not realise how big Unimog's are until we spent the morning chatting beside his twincab. My shoulders were barely level with the top of the mudguards.

Wanderer article about Jim's Unimog confirms ...
"3,7m high, 2.4m wide, 7.5m long
9.4 ton Unladen
Spare Wheel and tyre 170kg
30 litres/100km!
Cost $500,000
...So far Jim has not been beaten by the terrain although there are two circumstances where he can struggle...The vehicle requires 3.7m of clearance and can struggle with overhanging trees. ...The other is narrow mountain tracks where the vehicle may be just too wide."

time the Wanderer featured a good all round offroader.. how about the OKA R series

Here's a pic of Kaye sitting in an abandoned Unimog tyre near Neale Junction on the Anne Beadell 'Highway'.

What do you reckon one of these cost ? or 6 for a full off road set ?

Unimogs are without doubt a great off road tractor. If you need to move heavy gear in the desert or tundra or basically open country where there's no roads at all there's nothing better.

But as a realistic on road/off road camper/mobile home they leave a LOT to be desired. Overly complicated with portal axles, and very expensive to buy, run and maintain.
IMO a very over rated vehicle.

Deano :)

Great little gathering the other weekend
Susi & Ruedi in their tiny campervan
Jo & Al, Beverly & Richard were there with their OKAs.
Dean & Jacquie with their newly licenced OKA stayed for lunch
Stephen & Denise drove up for bbq tea
Dave & Pauline dropped in for Sunday morning tea.
Was great to catch up with everyone and meet new owners and maybe not so great to find our OKA
now needs a full set of batteries and work done to the rear axle. Oh well, better to find that out
on a weekender than halfway down a deserted bush track.
Also loving the panorama function on the iphone.
see ya

Sitting at Marla after completing the Oodnadatta Track when Tim and Lorraine in Oka 124 sidled up beside us. We were heading north and they were heading south after 3 months on the road.

Had a nice long chat and a cuppa with them.
